This is a very strange one that has happened to me before, but this time is lasting much longer...

A couple of days ago my partner turned off the power at the main box when the computer was turned off. For some reason it now will not start again when plugged into the same wall socket (although all my other components will). The really strange part is that if I take it to another room in the house it WILL start up. This happened once before and it worked again after about a day. This time it has taken 2.5 days and counting.

I'm not really interested in running an extension cord through the house in the meantime, so I'm hoping someone might have an explanation/solution.

Oh, and on a related note, I seem to have misplaced the keys to my antec Sonata II case. Any suggestions on how to open it up (it is locked, of course!) without using the key. The lock doesn't look all that sophisticated.

    Thanks in advance.

Try a new power cable. If that does not work, I would get the wall plug checked out.

Sounds like a bad wall socket. They've been known to go half-bad. One half works, the other is bad.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I did try different power cords and plugging it into both plugs of the wall socket (recall -- all of my peripherals work fine on both plugs in this socket). Right now I have an extension cord running out of the room but perhaps I do have to get an electrician in to see if there is something funny going on.

As for the keys, maybe I should make that a separate post...

Not really, it is sort of hardware related, I just forgot to answer.

If it's one of those locks with the little round Key, you might be able to find a master key for it. Try a hardware store that cuts keys. If they can't help, they might be able to recommend a locksmith that can.

If it's not, you could try picking it, but it could make it hard to use the regular key if you can't pick it.
