i am having trouble with my laptop... it's old... 2 years maybe

its not booting... to Wwndows Xp sp3

its show on a black screen...

    Disk read error
    ctrl + alt + delete

    someting like that...

    did some basic actions...

    chkdsk /r
    fixboot
    fixmbr

the chkdsk by the way detected some errors...

    it still won't boot...
    but here's the gist...

whenever i use a boot cd utility... (UBCD, HBCD)
i choose boot from HD, windows xp (NTLDR)
    tada... it boots fine...

but without the utility... it will show the same Disk Read error?:cry

Some Help will be very much appreciated...
    Thank you.

Since chkdsk is showing errors, it sounds like the hard drive is headed for imminent failure. The fact that you're able to boot from CD seems to verify this. There may have been a head crash at some point.
