HELP! DVD Burning...??

Hi Everyone, I'm Jess. I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself, say hi and ask my first question and hope someone here will be able to help me. I am not very high tech savy and just bought a my first laptop 2 weeks ago so I'm still catching up with technology. I use a pc at work but I haven't bought a new personal pc for home in 6 years!
Here's the problem. I have Direct Tv and the DVR service for it so I can hold the 100 hours of programs in my receiver. On the front of the reciever is a USB port. When they installed the satallite they the technician told me that with a dvd burner I could hook it up and burn dvds. The problem is I have no idea how to do it! My Grampa lives alone in the mountains and has no tv service because of the are so I taped 14 hours of golf for him, the only problem is now how do I get it from the dvr receiver to my dvd burner? Also what about software? I have a Dell B130 Inspiron Notebook that I custom made with alot of upgrade such as the dvd burner so it came with something called movie maker but it looks like something for short clips. I also have Windows Media Player, could I use that? I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me. My Grampa is really looking forward to seeing the games from the past 2 days. Thanks

 

Hi Jess,
I might suggest getting an external DVD burner that uses a USB cable. Look on newegg.com for them. Or buy a set-top DVD unit that has RCA type jacks and run cables from the output of the DVR to the inputs of the DVD recorder. Lite-On makes some very good units
