HELP!.. Explorer performed an illegal operation?..

W98se.. I uninstalled a Majorgeeks "tune-up all in one tools" freebie software, and now reboot freezes at "Explorer did an illegal", in both normal and safemode... I can't recall the name of the software... All those titles look the same, now that I am so flustered and freaked...

Is there a way to reboot in the previous registry backup?.. or does this problem require a format-C..?

 

1. Click the Start button
2. Click Shut Down
3. Choose Restart in MS DOS mode and click OK.

When you see C:>windows in white writing on a black screen:

1. Type scanreg /restore and press enter.(That's scanreg space slash restore)
2. Choose a date before the problem began.
3. Press enter.

 

I tried that, but it didn't work with this W98se.. Maybe it's for another Windows operating system.. but your info gave me something to go on... I just found that Microsoft has a lot of new updates on this type of troubleshooting... Seems they haven't fully dropped W98 support...

I found this one worked... "windows\command\scanreg/restore"...

Everything is back to normal... Thanks bunchly.. It's a huge relief to not have to format-C yet again.. about the same lovely feeling like after finally removing the last bits of a quarter inch wide oak-sliver from the side of a thumb, with a tiny visegrip... oh sigh...
