Whenever I try to click open a help file (.chm), it gives me this error: "Microsoft HTML Help Executable has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." It happens to all help files I have on my computer. It's been doing this ever since I formatted my hard drives about two months ago. At first I thought it was just a couple help files that weren't working at first but I've tried every .chm file on my machine and I receive the same error message.

I have scanned my computer for viruses, ran Ad-Aware, ran Spybot and have come up with nothing. I have ran each of those programs every day since I've formatted and have never received a virus.

If you could help me out with this, I'd be grateful.

The Wiz, 25000+ hits searching google for "chm files". You gotta find something there while you are waiting for MG experts to reply. Hope this helps in the meantime. Bazza

A couple of ideas, not sure if they'll work...

    1) Start > Run > regsvr32 itss.dll

    if that doesn't work try:

    2) Start > Run > sfc /scannow

I tried both of those and they didn't do anything unfortunately. I tried various different .chm files aftewards and still received the same errors.

Yeah, I've searched Google a few different times and didn't find much help. I found some results that link to forums where some had similar problems but no one replied to them.

In the 'Error Report Contents' box (see your screenshot and my attachment), could you scroll down and post all of the modules (files) that are listed there please.

Wow that's a lot of dlls...

I should have asked this before, but does the same thing happen in Safe Mode?

I just tried opening some of those files in Safe Mode and I still get the same errors. I checked to see if the module file names were the same as well and they are.

I'm grasping at straws here, but I would try re-registering all the dlls in that list.

    Start > Run > ntdll.dll

and just go down the list and do all of them.

Okay, I tried registering all those files and no luck.
