Since upgrading to Windows 10 one of my favorite and most used programs, Microsoft Digital Image Pro, cannot be installed. I just need a simple software program (preferably free) where I can start off with a blank 8.5 X 11 page, add text and insert pictures, graphics, etc. I have tried to duplicate the page (pic. below) with MS Word, Gimp, Paint and several software downloads but they are either too complicated or won't do what I need. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

MS and Free. You do have to click on view and set paper size to 8.5 x 11.
Look for the 2016 download version.

To keep the paper size under View menu, click Paper Size, then on the right select Letter and go down to Save Current As Template, give it a name and check Set As Default template, to always open "paper" sized. Use ToDo for a checklist.

Okay, care to elaborate? Onenote does all the stuff you asked for. Why will the other program not install, specifically?

I will give Onenote another try but if it isn't what I need what do you think about Virtualbox? On another forum a microsoft techie suggested it to somebody that also wanted to use the MS Digital Image software and she said it worked. The problem is MS Digital 9 has been discontinued and will only run on older pc's with IE 6.

If you can't figure out half a dozen other programs but you think you'll get setting up a VM? Sure, you can run an old OS in VBox and install & use old software, that is what many use it for.
Virtualization is fun to mess with, I've done VBox, VMWare and lately Proxmox (server based).

to get what you want, ie run older software, virtualbox is a good way to go.
besides the virtualbox program, itself, just remember to also download and install
the virtualbox extensions pack [ extpack ] and the Vbox guest additions [ which is a small .iso file ]
note the version of the program and then search for both extpack and guest additions with the same version number.
at my work place, we use virtualbox and it does the job well. good luck with it

Have you tried installing the program using compatibility mode? Right click on the setup.exe file & choose compatibility tab, then set it to the OS on which the program previously worked on. save this & then run the setup.

Did you install an operating system in VBox? Do you have an ISO or CD to install with? Are you looking to run Win 98 or XP?
I don't want to sound mean, but like I said if you can't figure out other programs, going to VBox would be a jump from the kiddie slopes to the black diamond runs.

as the name suggests, virtual box provides an environment into which one can then install any number of operating systems. first, one would install the virtual box program itself. then you have to install an operating system. you would need, as mentioned, either the CD/DVD of the operating system, or an ISO file, which contains the contents of said CD/DVD. then you start virtual box, and using its interface, you point it at the CD/DVD or ISO file, and you go through the installation of the operating system. half hour, 45 minutes later, it should complete. to install the extension pack, just double click the extpack file, and it installs itself. for the guest additions, you need to boot up the guest operating system, then choose to mount the guest additions ISO file within the installed guest operating system [ the CD icon in the system tray of the virtual box program allows this ].
now, i don't want to violate some majorgeeks terms of service and get them mad at me, but if you do not have an operating system CD/DVD or ISO file, eBay is a good place to find what you need at a good price. If you want an ISO file of said operating system, the website, archive dot org, could have it. once there, just do a search for what you want.
if you can get virtual box working, it's pretty cool. good luck with it.

Thank you so much harmless. Your directions were easy to follow and I did get virtual box onto my pc. I was able to install MS Digital and have been using it daily. Your help is very much appreciated!

ps...guess I'm not as stupid as you think I am, foogoo! (Having a blast on the black diamond runs!)
