You have to click on manual on right hand side.
This should give you basically all you need- if it is that motherboard, or, similar.

it is similar, but not the right one.

If it is similar, the wiring diagram will be similar.
Otherwise I need some other information from your motherboard.
    That one was MSI KT4A-V

Are you looking at sata data cable connection ?

If so, the red lead fits on to motherboard port as in page 10, and the other end fits on to the smaller one on the sata drive (I assume it is not an IDE drive you are trying to connect.
Then the power cable (if you have a larger , but similar lead on your psu to the red sata data lead, fits to the larger l shaped slot on the sata drive, or, a normal 4 pin plug (never both).
If you have an IDE drive , it can only fit on an IDE drive.

the leads are 39 40 pin plug and smaller lead is 34 pin plug and coulours black blue grey on lead pin holders

Right the IDE drive must be set as slave, unless that one contains your operating system, and connects to the motherboard IDE POINT ,( USUALLY THE COLOURED ONE), AND IT NEEDS A 4 PIN POWER CONNECTION AT THE DRIVE END.

Sorry, as your replies do not get directed for me to reply in the normal manner, I cannot help you further - All I will sy is that if your hard drive is not recognised when the 4 oin connector is connected , then it is probably dead.
