I'd like to start by saying that I know nothing about Vista. That said, here goes. I have a HP pavillion 6500 with windows vista. I am having a difficult time with usb flash drives. everytime i plug one in, it doesnt even acknowledge that it is in. i cant get it to recognize that it is plugged in. specifically i have a 128 mb sandisk cruzer mini. is there something im missing? i am totally new to vista. thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

P.S. This is a computer for a friend, and if it was up to me, I'd install XP and it would be SO much easier!

If you plug in the sandisk and reboot, does Vista see the drive?
If no, go into the BIOS and be sure USB ports are enabled.
If yes, it could be that the USB ports are turning off to save power because this is a notebook. I think you can go into Device Manager, right click on one of the USB Root Hubs and be sure that turn off power to save the battery is not checked.

A 128mb cruzer might also be formatted FAT (as in 16 bits). Would Vista recognize this? I don't know much about Vista.

Does vista recognize floppies still? There fat formated? FYI Vista still supports fat formated devices.
