I have 2 HDDs. 1 5400rpm 1 7200rpm both 80 gig. I had XP home installed on the 5400rpm but decided to switch to the 7200rpm, makes sense.

I used a Boot CD with Norton Ghost 2003 to copy the partition to the new HDD.
Everything went smoothly until I took out the old HDD and booted windows.
It would not load windows so I repaired it and installed SP2 again, now I can get into windows.

Here's the real issue here; none of my startup programs work. I went into msconfig and changed the startup type to selective, still didnt work, it reverted back to normal startup. So I connected the old HDD again and booted up, everything is fine. Confused yet????? I am.

How do I get everything working on the new HDD without having the old one plugged in? ARG!

Sounds like your new destanation drive has a different drive letter. No real way to fix it, other than make a new Ghost image, unhook the other drive, GHost the new drive, and let it boot. If it retains the correct drive letter, you are in business.

It sounds like you are still booting from the old drive. A couple of things here. First, right click on My Computer, Manage, Disk management. Check the drive letters assigned to each drive. You can right click on each drive to change these. Second, look at volume id(name) of each drive. Ghost will make your cloned drive with the same id. Windows often has issuse with 2 drives of the same name. If they are exactly the same, change one of them so that they are unique, then reboot. Good Luck.

My destination drive was G. I couldnt do what you suggested Adrynaylne since I accidentally deleted the HDD with windows on.

Now I have reinstalled XP on the new drive and the old one is blank and all is working fine.

I am having a few errors and bugs atm with the new installation but I think it will iron out and all will be stable again in a few days.
