Help! Help! major problem with slave hd

I have already posted this yesterday under mouse problems but no replies as yet and I am desperate.
I have added ram, another cdrw/dvd and replaced slave hd with a bigger one.
Trying to initialize the hd and my comp reinstalled some drives unsuccesfully - not enough resources message - and disabled my mouse completely. It will not function although I get a message that the device is working fine in manager.

Can anyone help please ?

 

Sounds like you may have one of your new devices set wrong. The first thing that I would try is making sure that each has the correct Master/Slave settings. Hope this helps.

 

Did the replacement slave drive work? How large is it?

Which device does Device Manager report as working -- the drive or the mouse?

When your system starts, it should display some information about the hardware when it completes the POST and before your operating system starts to load. That information should include an identification of all drives installed in your system -- both hard drives and optical drives. Are all installed drives correctly reported in that screen?

(If that screen goes by too quickly to read it all, hit the PAUSE key when the BIOS screen appears. Hit any key when you're ready to complete the startup.)

And when you've done that, let us know. And also give us a list of all physical drives are installed in your system that tells us:

• the capacity of each drive
• the number of partitions on each drive (if more than one)

Please also tell us what error message you get when you try to access the slave drive.

Once we have that information, we'll be able to figure something out -- if only what questions to ask next.
