Hope this is the right way to ask for help... cause I need some help.

Home page has been hijacked to C:\spad\start.html
I have run AdAware, Spybot, HijackThis, and CWShreder.

HijackThis has the most interesting results. It deletes the suspect entries that refer to start.html and myexexex.com but they return immediatley. Running the scan back to back (right after a delete) it shows right back up. I have tried rebooting after a scan, running homepage protection features on SpyBot and History Kill... nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Here is the fix! Copied from Shadowwar at http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=2624&hl

Copy the next 13 lines to notepad.
    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{869EE607-5376-486d-8DAC-EDC8E239AD5F}]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{869EE607-5376-486d-8DAC-EDC8E239AD5F}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{869EE607-5376-486d-8DAC-EDC8E239AD5F}]
    [-HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{869EE607-5376-486d-8DAC-EDC8E239AD5F}]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{BE2F2769-8A63-4bc7-8A99-06C2C4AD7B9B}]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BE2F2769-8A63-4bc7-8A99-06C2C4AD7B9B}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{BE2F2769-8A63-4bc7-8A99-06C2C4AD7B9B}]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{869EE607-5376-486d-8DAC-EDC8E239AD5F}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{237AA178-C3BC-4f67-A8BB-D8BC14BA0B89}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{237AA178-C3BC-4f67-A8BB-D8BC14BA0B89}]
    [-HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{237AA178-C3BC-4f67-A8BB-D8BC14BA0B89}]

Now in notepad select file/save as

    give it the name clear.reg
under the filename change save as type to all files.
    save it to the desktop.
    close notepad.
    Double click clear.reg
when asked to merge say yes.

    Reboot.

    Delete these files:
    C:\\DOCUMEnts and settings\(username)\LOCAL Settings\Temp\HPCMDTY.DLL
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\c_10230.dll
    c:\spad(whole folder)

Then load up hijackthis and fix these entries:

    Hello Everyone,

I need some help please? I too, have a browser-hijack situation. Spybot & NAV can't delete it. I can manually find/delete some of the files. They just get rewritten, though...

When I open IE from the desktop icon. I get some unknown or wanted "Super Search" page. If I open IE from my keyboard's "My Home" key, though. My regular homepage loads. If any page takes too long to load, the search page loads instead. When I open other pages. I see[ https.//www.nkvd.us/1524/ ] inserted in front of the URL.

I'm out of my league w/this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

P.S.: I've a P4 system, w/an Intel chipset. The OS is XP Home. I built the system myself.

Hmmm... Alittle more info on my problem.

The URL is http://searchpage.cc/1524/ . When it rewrites to other URLs by inserting nkvd.us/1524. I cannot find any such named files to delete.

This searchpage.cc site offers a removal program, but... Hey, call me a Cinic. That URL's: http://searchpage.cc/1524/uninstall.htm

Sorry for the 2 part post.

    Kenny,

Welcome to MG's but please start a new thread for your issues. This thread is for the problems in rgdixon's HiJaak This log. Mixing requests in one thread confuses the issues and makes it more difficult to resolve problems.

    Ok,

Thanks Sarge... I thought it was the same problem.

    Thanks chaslang.

Not sure how to really go about this. When I double click on clear.reg it says that it "cannot import from clear.reg THe specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

So I open regedit, but where to import to? There are so many folders and subfolders. If you try to import clear.reg, it tells you that "the key will be restored on top of key X (where X is the registry highlighted). All value entries and subentries will be deleted.

This did not sound too good to me.
    any suggestions?

    Okay,

Let's skip Shadowwar's method for now and try the following. Shutdown all applications especially browser sessions (IE, etc) and Windows Explorer. Run HiJaak This again and put check marks next to the following and then select fix:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.myexexex.com/searchbar.php
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage&qq=%s
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file://c:/spad/start.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file://c:/spad/start.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.myexexex.com/searchbar.php
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage&qq=%s
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = file://c:/spad/start.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage&qq=%s
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage

Then reboot in Safe Mode and find and delete (if they exist) the following (make sure you can view hidden file and folders):

    C:\\DOCUMENTS and settings\(username)\LOCAL Settings\Temp\HPCMDTY.DLL
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\c_10230.dll

(Replace username above with your login name)

Delete this directory if it exists:
    c:\spad

could not find hpcmdty.dll in temp file, but found it in system32

    left it there

deleted c_10239.dll while in safe mode. Had to run hijackthis again upon reboot since the hijacker had already re-done the registry before I rebooted (it's instantaneous). After re-running and rebooting again the little pest appears to be gone.

thanks so much for your help. hope this is the end of that one.

    best, rgd

Delete c:\Windows\System32\hpcmdty.dll too. It's part of that spad problem.

Note if this crap comes back. We are going to have to figure out why you had a problem running that clear.reg script. All it should do is delete the registry entries that this SPAD stuff creates.

I am posting on this thread even though I am not certain that I have the same problem. Please correct me if I should start a new thread.

I have a problem that was not detected by Ad-Aware (updated), SpyBot 1.3 (but the Resident Agent helped), or Pest Patrol. WinPatrol also helped to alert me to the problem.

In my case, the Browser Hijacker tried to change the start page to is c:\spex\start.html. When I blocked the changes with WinPatrol/Spybot Resident, I would receive a message every 30 seconds that the spyware wanted to change the start page. My edited Hijack This log showed the following:

I was able to get the clear.reg file to make the suggested changes to the registry. After I rebooted, I was able to locate and delete the file: C:\WINDOWS\System32\c_10230.dll. I had previously deleted the entire folder C:\Documents and Settings\(User Name)\Local Settings\Temp. When I attempted to do so this time, there were three files in use. All followed the format XXXX.dat (where XXXX appears to be four random characters. Earlier Zone Alarm had blocked an attempt by one of these files to access the Internet. When I looked at the Zone Alarm logs, I saw that it had repeated the attempt several times a day.

I booted into Safe Mode and deleted the folder C:\Documents and Settings\(User Name)\Local Settings\Temp. When I rebooted into Windows, I got a message saying that I might have viruses or Trojans on my computer and to click for a free removal tool. I said no. I ran Pest Patrol and Ad Aware and they said my machine was clean. However, when I went to the Major Geeks website, I could hear two bubble sounds through my speakers as though the spyware was saying that it was watching. Here is my current Hijack This log in its entirity.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage&qq=%s
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file://c:/spex/start.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file://c:/spex/start.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.myexexex.com/searchbar.php
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage&qq=%s

and maybe try startpage guard (new on front page for download) and let us know if that helps.
