HELP:( i can not install any programs i get online

if anyone can help me i would really apprciate it. my problem is that i can not install any program that i seem to get from online it installs games from cd just fine. but however programs like the battlefield 2 patch will give me this error:

"An error(-5006 : 0x8000ffff) has occured while running setup.

Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed all other applications. If the error still occurs please contact your vendor"

This is very frustrating, i even tried reformatting so i know its not a virus or spyware....i do not know what i am doing wrong but i have spent HOURS trying to figure out what i am doing wrong. i have a firewall but i disabled it even uninstalled it. it was the nvidia firewall .... whether this is a bios issue or what i am quite perplexed

my system is as follows:

Asus A8n SLI Deluxe
Athon 64 3700 oced @ 2.42 ghz
1 gig geil ram
XFX 7800 gt
(2) 120 gig raid 0
windows xp home addition

i just built this rig about 3 weeks ago. like i said any assistance would be great i dont know if i have a setting wrong or what... thanks for any help
