    Retrieving email account info

I need help retrieving email account info. I have managed to get my emails from my ext. HD but it did not give me the account info. I would also like to get my address book if anyone can help me with that.

    Could spam washer do it?
Is it free? I see that it is shareware and I do not know what it means.

    Thanks,
    Jeb

    Re: Retrieving email account info

If you did not back it up, it does not exist somewhere. Backing up emails, address book and accounts are different. "File, export" allows you to export and import messages and your address book while "tools, accounts" allows you to export and import your account info.

If not backed up or you can not access your outlook, it is gone. You will have to call your isp for your account information and start your address book all over.

Were big fans of backing up data, hopefully next time you make weekly backups :)

    Re: Retrieving email account info

    Let me understand this correctly.

The hard drive is in tact. I've made an external hard drive from it.

I can retrieve the dbx files and load them in OE. This much I have accomplished.

My Address Book and Account info is irretrievable? Accept for calling the isps.

    This just can't be!!:cry

    Re: Retrieving email account info

No, you did not give me all the info. If you can load outlook, follow the steps I gave you.

Address book is physically located in C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

    Re: Retrieving email account info

Sorry I didn't mean to be so vague. I do not believe that I can load up my OE from the E drive. Maybe by partitioning or something but I have no clue as to how to do that.

As far as getting my addy book I understand what you are telling me to do there.

    Here is the scenario.

My computer power at the mother board( I think) died. Either way I pulled the hard drive and converted it to an ext. HD. I am now working from a different computer trying to retrieve the info from the Ext. HD. This info isn't backed up it is as it was on the hard drive in a working comp. that is now an ext. HD.

Oh I hope that makes sense. I wish I could open the ext as like another comp. but I am sure I would need special software/equip. for that.

    Thanks
    Jeb

    Re: Retrieving email account info

Sounds like you got everything but the account info, correct? You said you have the dbx files and understand how to retreive the address book.

This might require booting from external drive by entering your bios and checking for a USB boot option, however a 5 minute call to your isp to retreive your password might be faster, easier and end this for you..... Be sure to write down and store a few key passwords this time around :)

    Re: Retrieving email account info

Yes you are correct as usual.

I will follow the same path that I used for the dbx file to retrieve my address book with the changes to the path that you have givin me.
Will I import the address book the same way as I imported the dbx files?

I will contact the isps and get my info for the account info from them. It will probably be way faster. But then again nothing in my world seems to happen in a timely manor. lol

    Thanks again for the help,
    Jeb

    Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!

As I was about to do a search for wab files I recalled that I may have saved a copy of the address book to a flash drive.

I plugged it in and wallah there it is. Imported and now I am almost back in business. Just need my pop3 and htp account #'s and I'm fully in business with the help from you guys.

    Just awesome.

I may have to look into a new career path.

    Thanks again Jeb.

Now tell me how to pull the pop3 and htp account info up and will all be a little more educated. cmon challenge yourselves

    Re: Retrieving email account info

Again, if you can boot from that drive, you can load Outlook and export it. Thats the only way I know of, not sure account data is stored in a readable fashion, if it was, anyone could steal your email accounts and passwords in minutes, which is why I thought a phone call would do it for you. Glad it worked out :)

I am having some issues with getting my email up and running.

First off I do not believe the system had OE but rather just outlook.

I didn't find it originaly in the programs but I know that I copied and pasted from my external hard drive.

    I have accounts set up.

I can receive but not send

I was trouble shooting from microsoft which one of its suggestions was to start it in safe mode.

windows says it cannot find outlook.exe/safe

    what does it all mean?

    thanks, Jeb

Hello all and thank you for your help.

I just wanted to let everyone know I am up and running again.

Not quite sure what the whole fix was but got it done between the isp and Microsoft help pages.

OE can be a real pain to fix.

I did want to say that when someone says it is so important to backup your machine they are not kidding.

    Backup backup backup

    Thanks again,
    Jeb
