You do realize that DVDs and CDs are not the same, and that you will require a DVD burner, not just a CD-R/W drive to burn a DVD?

Unfortunately, I cannot find information on this specific model to tell you for sure whether or not you have a DVD-R/W

but it let me burn it into a normal CD because it was a CD not a DVD?

Possibly. If you have the documentation that came with the PC check if you have a DVDRW or a CDRW ... or both? Also what program are you using to burn the CD's?

If you DL EVEREST Home (free) and look under Storage > Optical Drives it will give you excellent summary info on what particular CD or DVD Drive you have, post the model No. back if you need more info:

The answer may be that there are now many different types of movie/media availible on PC's, many of which were made from a DVD originally but have been converted or coded to fit onto a CD. Examples are VCD, SVCD and DivX (sometimes refered to as .AVI files).

If you have nero installed, you can use the infotool to check. Launch Nero InfoTool, select your drive and check the 'Supported write features' section. If your drive can burn DVD's there should be a checkmark next to the supported format.
If you don't have nero, you can grab the InfoTool here.
