Help I have no sound

Hi all,
I have a friends comp here and can't get the sound to work.
sound and audio device properties - audio - volume- say no device found!
Under hardware it says this device working is working properly.
I tried trouble shooter wiht no luck.
Can anyone please help. :cry

Does anything show up under the add/remove programs list for audio? Do you think just reinstalling the audio software and drivers over the old would fix it? If so check with the Dell site for the appropriate files. Sometimes the driver instructions are on the hard drive as .inf files under C > Windows > Inf and uninstalling them from Device Manager allows windows to reinstall them after a boot to fix corrupt files. You can also point the update files to the inf folder to see if that fixes it.

 

Check in BIOS to ensure the onboard sound is enabled (if it doesn't have an add-on card)
Check that Windows Audio Service is started.
Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
Scroll down the list of services until you find the Windows Audio service.
Right click on it and choose Properties.
Make sure it is set to Automatic and Start is checked.

If you still have no sound, reinstall the drivers.
