Help, I need a forum recommendation

I have a CD-Rom problem (earlier post) that seems unresolvable. I need a recommendation for another forum that specializes in CD-Roms or something. I'm new and do not know which forums to trust with my e-mail! I obviously trust you guys over the months I've been a visitor. Thanks.

 

This is the first time that I've seen your thread, and went back and read your previous posts. I'm not clear on the extent of your problem. Can you sucessfully boot Windows despite the CDROM issue?

You mentioned your motherboard type and all, but is your computer home built, white box, or made by a major manufacturer ( Compaq, HewlettPackard, Dell ) ?

Have you tried going into device manager, deleting the devices, and rebooting to see if Windows detects them correctly?

 

OMG! It works! I deleted them in the Device Manager and rebooted. I also per DCO57's great recommendations, unplugged everything (cables, power) from both. I also went into the BIOS again and this time changed the CMOS to "Auto" for the devices. They'd been labeled as CD-ROM--which seems to be the BIOS recommendation--but when I'd left the BIOS Setup as it was, I still got the ATAPI incompatible message.

This is a home-built device, but I'm not the original maker. I put in my own graphics card and new hard drives, so I know how to "root around" in there, but I have a lot to learn. I had thought about deleting the devices, but I didn't know if it would be the right thing to do, or just an act of frustration Now I can laugh about it and will soon be dancing around the house!
