    any suggestions?

All kinds of books, don't like romance novels (blecch), not keen on out there sci-fi. Stephen King, Dean Koontz, murders, mysteries, spy and general thrillers. And some fantasy stuff like Mercedes Lacky (The Bardic Chronicles).Current is Dale Brown :The Tin Man. Very good.
    I am bored, please help!!!
Tell me what you are reading ;)

(Going to see Spider Man 2 now, news at 11 :D)

Try Dan Brown's books - remember they're fiction  - Angels and Demons, The DaVinci Code, Deception Point, and Digital Fortress.

But right now, I'm reading Apollo. All about the beginnings of the Apollo Space Program - interesting stuff. :)

I'm in the middle of restarting Piers Anthony's Xanth series...it's technically Sci-Fi, but not really. More fantasy, and pretty absurd fantasy at that.

Otherwise...I just pick random books based on their covers, and more often than not I win when I get them home. You might want to give that a try. :)

Here is a synopsis of White Oleander (I got it from a website) :)

"Astrid is the only child of single mother, Ingrid, a brilliant, obsessed poet who wields her luminous beauty to intimidate and manipulate men. Astrid worships her mother and cherishes their private world full of ritual and mystery — but their idyll is shattered when Astrid's mother falls apart over a lover. Deranged by rejection, Ingrid murders the man, is sentenced to life in prison.
White Oleander is the unforgettable story of Astrid's journey through a series of foster homes and her efforts to find a place for herself in impossible circumstances. Each home is its own universe, with a new set of laws and lessons to be learned. With determination and humor, Astrid confronts the challenges of loneliness and poverty, and strives to learn who a motherless child in an indifferent world can become. Tough, irrepressible, funny, and warm, Astrid is one of the most indelible characters in recent fiction.

White Oleander is an unforgettable story of mothers and daughters, the redemptive powers of art, and the unstoppable force of the emergent self. Written with exquisite beauty and grace, this is a compelling debut by an author poised to join the ranks of today's most gifted novelists."

So just yesterday, someone at another forum posted a "what are your favourite authors" thread. So what the heck...maybe you'll get some inspiration. :)

Favourite authors? Hoo boy... (no particular order, just how they occurred to me)

    Stephen King
    Dean Koontz
    Carl Hiaasen
    Kinky Friedman
    Christopher Moore
    Tami Hoag
    Iris Johansen
    Robert Ludlum
    James Michener
    Charles Dickens
    Tom Clancy
    John Grisham
    James Patterson
    Ray Bradbury
    Kurt Vonnegut
    Richard Bach
    Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
    C.S. Lewis
    J.R.R. Tolkein
Piers Anthony (only reading the Xanth series, but liking him so far)
    Robin Cook
    Barbara Taylor Bradford
    Scott Turow
    Nancy Taylor Rosenberg
    Diana Gabaldon
    Michael Crichton
    Anne Rice
    Thomas Harris
    Sara Paretsky

    And many more... :)

    lostkiwi MajorGeek

LOL Sgt Tibbs, you have a lot of authors on there that I like.
All it is right now, is no one has anything new that I haven't read :(
If Janet Evanovich would hurry up and put out a new Stephanie Plum novel for the summer or if Dave Barry would write something else (his last novel was hilarious), I could have a good laugh that doesn't require buying a laptop!

  22. Sgt. Tibbs

    Sgt. Tibbs Ultra Geek

    ROFL! Yeah, actually. :)

I really don't care for Mary Higgins Clark (too smarmy and predictable), Tony Hillerman (I'm sure they're fine, but they all read too simply for me, as if I were a mildly retarded 3rd grader), most Sci-Fi writers (too caught up in the techical aspects to write a good story), most Western writers (not my cup of tea), whats-her-face that wrote Harry Potter (I know, blasphemy...I really don't like the books), John Saul (although some of his early stuff was good, before he started writing the same three books over and over again), Stephen Crane (too dry), Nathaniel Hawthorne (also too dry), and probably a whole host of others whom I've read, put down, and promptly forgot about afterward.

lostkiwi---- I have an all time favorite, Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet.

I went through a period in time of reading many books, and this is the one I remember best.

It's setting is old catherdral building days, Follet portrays the characters in such a way that they come alive and are memorable. Some are very lovable some extremely hated. Follows the everyday lives of commoners and kings etc. Gripping from start to finish. Love, war, economics, politics, overcoming the odds, mystery, deciept, everything that still applies to present day living except without the high tech computers. It has geeks and inventors, masons carpenters, religious figures, it's fiction I guess, but man it could be real.

This was one of the books I couldn't put down. I typically like Sci Fi, but this was much better. Love the foundation series by Asimov. But the Pillars of the Earth by Follet exceded all literary works I have read.

Maybe you have already read this, but is still worth reading a couple times.
I have not spoken to anyone else who has read this and would like a second opinion. So do read, it only takes a couple days.

Try not to think about the pink elephant, hehehehehttp://www.websmileys.com/sm/animal/460.gif

I have read some Ken Follett and I think he wrote "Dog Day Afternoon" which was terrific. He did write the Third Twin which was great.
    Thanks Mr Magoo.
I was planning on rereading "NIghtmares and Dreamscapes" (Stephen King), but the book is too heavy.....

If you want something to keep you occupied, start The Dark Tower by Stehen King, I've just finished the 6th book and can't wait for the 7th and final book due in September.

It's beginning to get very strange :)
