I need help, and fast really

I have done the usual things, ran antivirus, malwarebytes

I got a phone call from someone who said they were from Microsoft

They gave me all my details, PC number, operating system, even the disc number of my operating system, they had my name, DOB, email address, my home address, my phone number (I dont give out my land line number, but when I got my OS, I had to give that to MS) only thing that was missing was my inside leg measurement, they seemed to know everything about my PC and me (even knew what page I was on)

They were very convincing, and as I have been having problems with my PC and sent them error reports, I thought they were the real deal (I have never contacted MS before, so didnt have the number to call em back

Anyway, they got control of my PC, then started deleteing stuff, I pulled the plug when I saw stuff going, but then they called me back and started taking the p*** about how my PC wouldnt work any more (I'm glad to say it does)

They sounded like the usual Indians in India that MS employ

But how do I find out if they can still access my PC ?

How do I find out if they have put a 'back door' into it ?

I am running various malware and anti virus software (so far nothing has been found)

I cant find anything that isnt working any more, it seems fine

There are no new accounts on my PC (that I can find)

I havent been on any banking, money related websites, just in case there is something on my PC

I dont klnow what the files were before they were deleted or if they affect my PC, how can I found out ?

Help PLEASE, any advice would really be appreciated

They werent interested, I did download MS anti malware, ran all the anti virus, anti malware and disconnected my remote access, so far, it seems okay, but havent been on any websites that relate to bank accounts or buying and selling

Cant format my HD, cant write over my copy of windows, it say this copy is newer than the one I want to install (I guess that is because oif all the updates) and I would loose all the software I have installed

    So, still at square one:(

How are you trying to format your hard drive?

Typically what I do is boot my computer off the install DVD disc and when it asks if I want to perform an upgrade or custom install I select custom then I delete my existing partition and recreate it which the installer will format.
This will remove any software you have installed including the old OS and any documents, pictures, etc. you may wish to keep. A fresh install is the only way to make sure you're not still infected.

To let you know something. Microsoft will not contact you. Period. You can do a new install, but will need the OEM cd or dvd that came with the system, or if you are able to do so from the first screen, when the bios is checking itself, there should be a prompt to press something like F11 or such.

Any other info on this scheme that you were involved in, check the malware forum on here.
