Hey, I've got an older laptop (PIII 650) running Windows XP. I'm attempting to get it on the internet (high speed through Embarq (Sprint)) Their tech support worked with me until the wee hours this morning and were unsuccessful. However, when we pinged to Yahoo and Google, packets came back fine with no errors. Still, the IE could not "load search page."

I started considering removing IE, then found out that's not such a good idea.
I was thinking I'd start using Firefox and bypass IE entirely. I tried that last night as well and because IE won't load, the internet connection Firefox needed to get set up wasn't available.

Is it possible to uninstall or repair IE when it refuses to get online?

    What would you suggest?

    Thanks in advance,

    George

What version of XP is this? Home/pro? Gold/SP1/SP2? What version of IE? 6/7?

Sorry about that. It's XP Pro and IE 7

At the speed of your, CPU, I'd uninstall IE7. This may take some time. Then try again.

There have been known issues with the IE7 "upgrade".

I appreciate the tip. I wound up putting on Firefox and everything works great. I'll just have to reinstall IE when I need to use it.

    Thanks again,

    George
