I am trying to uninstall Battlefield 2 and when I do a warning pops up that in short says error code 5001 and it won't let me uninstall the game. I have searched these forums without much luck, I have googled this code without much luck, and I searched windows support without understanding anything. I want to uninstall so I can reinstall, but I have limited knowledge, and I can't seem to get it to work. I have tried to uninstall in safe mode, but the same thing happens. From my search on this subject, it looks as if others have run into this problem with this and other games, but I didn't find (with my limited knowledge and understanding) a solution. Thanks for any help

Try reinstalling it, then removing it.

Failing that, MoveOnBoot or Pocket Killbox and manually delete the files and folders, then use something like CCleaner and RegSeeker.

With the exception of MoveOnBoot, we have all the programs in the downloads section, and just for you, they are free. :)

should I have posted this on the games forum? does anyone know what the heck "error code 5001" means? when I tried to play the game, it said the game couldn't start due to the fact that I was missing "d3dx9_25.dll" I don't expect anyone to know what that means, but you guys have blown my wig off before with your understanding of all this stuff, so do you know what a dll file is? I tried installing again and then uninstalling but that seems to have only doubled my problem. I did read that forum about this subject, but I was hoping I could avoid manually deleting all of the files since I'm not really sure what I'm doing and I don't know how I would know if I got them all. I guess there is no better time to try.

I think that's a DirectX file. You can download the file individually, but you will more than likely find it's missing more.

What version of DirextX are you using?

Start, run and type in dxdiag then OK. (there is a diagnostic utility you can try)

If you aren't using 9c, then go to the Windows Update site and get the latest one.

I'm sure you're right about downloading individually. yeah, it looks like my DirectX is up to date.

Does it list any files missing or problems found?

it says 0 problems found, as for files missing, are you talking about the d3dx9_25.dll file? if so, it isn't in the list of DirectX files. excuse my ignorance

what I don't understand is when I try to uninstall, a little window opens up and states the following:
    >SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp(469)
    pAPP:Battlefield2(TM)
    PVENDOR: DICE
    PGUID:04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B
    $ 10.50.0.125
    @Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) IE 6.0.2900.2180

And then when I click ok it tells me to close running programs, empty temporary folders, and check my internet connection, and states error code 5001. Does any of this make any sense to anyone?

Try booting in Safe Mode and uninstall it, and/or close any background programs, empty your temporary files folder, then use a registry cleaner (RegSeeker) and something like CCleaner.

Both are freeware and available from our downloads section. Then try to reinstall it.

dude-I don't know how you do it-you're all over the place in these forums solving problems--thanks. I have tried to uninstall in safe mode, and I assume (correctly?I don't know)that using those two programs is only necessary after the uninstall, so I will give that a try tommorrow again. The good news is I think I solved my DirectX problem that I had no idea I had until you brought it to my attention, so now when I try to start the game up, it no longer says I'm missing that file, but now it starts to load up the game, but the game never gets started if that makes any sense. Anywho, I want to play the game, but not until I uninstall and reinstall. Thanks for the help so far.

Funny, that's what my girlfriend used to say.

    You're welcome, keep persevering. ;)

Do as you said, then install it and see if there are any official game patches.

Battlefield 2 is very buggy at the best of times unfortunately.

O.K. I tried to uninstall in safe mode and it tells me all of that gobbledegook that I typed up in post #9. I just don't get it. Would it be best for me to just delete the game file by file? I read on another forum that others have had to do this and they deleted files they shouldn't have. I can barely spell my name correctly let alone discern what files to delete, so I was hoping to avoid this. Is it possible/preferable to load the game in safe mode?

I doubt the game will start in Safe Mode as the drivers and files it requires aren't loaded, whether or not the game is installed correctly.

You really don't have that many options left, so you will have to manually delete the files and folders.

If it won't let you, try deleting the files in Safe Mode, then follow the instructions in #2.

Once that's done, I wouldn't immediately install the game, but I would first make sure all my drivers are up to date etc.

sorry--I didn't mean load the game in safe mode, I meant possible/preferable to install it in safe mode?

That's OK, but the answer is the same, no.

OK now I'm confused...I went to ea games support site, followed the instructions on how to manually delete the game, restarted the computer, the game still shows up in the start>programs dealie, but when I go to add/remove programs the game is not there. I did try installing like 2 other times after I had originally installed it, so is the game on there 2 more times? I am lost.....

A lot, in fact most, programs leave a Start Menu entry.

    Just right click and delete.

We all have our interests and hobbies, this just happens to be mine mine.

Anyway, I would run RegSeeker and CCleaner.

CCleaner has an extra function that cleans your Registry in "Issues", as well as the "normal" scan.

It will ask you to make a backup, which I suggest you do. It's very simple.

RegSeeker on the other hand needs some care.

Never delete any Red entries it finds. Instead, right click them and exclude.

It automatically stores the files you delete in backup, so if you have a problem, then you can boot in Safe Mode and replace them.

with CCleaner--do I click cleaner>applications>regedit? and in issues, do I just click on Registry integrity>scan for issues>fix problem?

holy cow-in regseeker, anything with red I don't delete, but if it is green I delete it? this could take me awhile. Why can't I delete the stuff that is red?

  23. Insomniac

Insomniac Billy Ray Cyrus #1 Fan

    CCleaner has two modes.

When you start it, it removes temp files by clicking Run Cleaner button.

Then you click Issues, then scan for issues etc and it will scan the Registry and ask you to back up, which you do, and yes fix selected issues.

As far as RegSeeker is concerned, the red items it isn't sure about, green it is, so only delete green and exclude red and it won't list them next scan.

All dedicated Regstry programs use this method.

well, with help, I think I did it. the game uninstalled, I ran the regseeker the correct way, ran the ccleaner the correct way, except under issues I wasn't sure if you check all of the boxes or just registry integrity, so I did the latter. No matter, the game uninstalled and reinstalled correctly! Thanks for your patience and help
