help: in over my head

installed adobe reader 10x. that was a bust, printing issues. uninstalled which went fine. attemted to dowload reader 9.4.1. got the message that it alreaded existed and install failed. went to control panel> add removes> clicked on adobe reader 9 and remove. then I get the message patch package could not be opened, verify that it exists. well adobe's dowload manager sure says it does but I can't open any pdf's. my OS is windows xp,sp3. I don't know what to do next

 

Download Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. Then run it in a admin account. Highlight anything related to adobe reader and select remove. I would advise you to try a different PDF reader. My recommendation is PDFXchange Viewer.

Try a right click on a pdf file, choose properties, choose the program to open the file if one isn't chosen, or if the one chosen doesn't exist Should be in the C:\Program Files\Adobe folder. In the future use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall programs, available here at MajorGeeks http://majorgeeks.com/Revo_Uninstaller_d5706.htm. Don't use Adobe Reader here either, lots of decent "bloat free" alternatives available. I do use dopdf http://majorgeeks.com/doPDF_d5545.html to save copies of web pages as pdf files by clicking print in the web browsers task bar, good for easy on or offline reference use. Hope you get it worked out to your satisfaction w/o having to hack the bone...:boxing

 

Well, just to stir the pot a little bit, I'll put in a half hearted vote For Adobe Reader.

I use it because it looks better than any others I've tried.
The text in Adobe is clearer and sharper than the others.

 

thanks, suggestions are just what I needed. installed revo uninstaller and got r done. I'm illiterate in such matters and majorgeek.com has been a god send.
