I currently have Win Vista Business. its a 32 bit os. My system says I am compatible to run a 64 bit system. So I went and downloaded the new win 7 64bit, burned iso to disc, then unplugged my hdd and hooked up a new1TB drive to partition. It gets to the loading drivers and white line loads across screen then I get the new screen saying error. Something about source and an error that my configuration may have changed recently, would I like to try again or quit.

It should work if my system says its 64bit capable.

I download the win 7 32 bit and it went through like a charm. But I dont want 32 bit I prefer to start out with 64 bit.

Could it be something with my system? operator error? or just bad iso file. Ive been back and forth for two days.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Any idea what to do or verify I can use 64 bit?

    Thanks

My sysytem is 32 bit, but when i view perfomrance info, it says 64 bit capable. Windows Seven is available in 64 bit and 32 bit versions. Hers my performance information for my computer. I also was not trying to upgrade, but do a fresh install on a new harddrive. I disconnected old vista and data drive so I can swap back and forth when needed.

I'm not exactly sure how the W7 install knew there was a config change.:confused Your E8400 is 64 bit so it begs this question, do you have an OEM machine like Dell etc., only thing that I can think of. Since you have vista Biz then I assume you won't want to multi- boot as that machine is critical to you and you don't want to jeopardize that install! Perhaps you had a bad burn, reburn at slowest speed. I'm just guessing here.

I tried the download several times. Strange thing is that the 32 bit win 7 seems to get me to install fine, but the 64 bit gives the error.

I currently have 3 hard drives. One is data drive, one has win vista, and the last is a new 1 tb that I wanted to have win 7 and data on. When I try to do the install, I disconnect the other hard drives so there is no accidental erase of data or os. I learned that the hard way a few months back.

btw its a custom build. Antec 900 case, evga mobo, etc

OK, custom build so that should eliminate driver issues. So you've burnt several disks and they all stop in the same place? Maybe a faulty DVD drive or burn.

I can give you a couple of tips here to help you out:

You don't need to redownload all the time, use MD5Sum and check the hashes, if they are equal then you have a good download.

I use IMGBurn(use the USA2 link) so try that at lowest speed and make sure to verify the burn.

Something I learned the hard way too when having 5 OSs on one system was to label the drives/partitions first and then you'll know where you are installing to if you go the multi-boot way.

Other than that, better heads will have to chime in here. Good luck.

    BTW, both programs are free.

I used iso buster after downloading and burning iso to disk. Does the Imgburn burn iso files?

That is IMGBurn's #1 purpose though it does other things well too. I haven't used ISOBuster in ages so I can't help you there. I never thought of it as burning app, more like recovery of bad disks. Try IMGBurn, small download and worth your while to have.

Something is bugging me, why did you use ISObuster in the first place?

I think that was mentioned in the windows seven installation notes. Im trying imgburn now, so Ill keep you posted on the outcome.

I never saw that but that doesn't mean anything, you just need a good burn is all and boot from it. Hope this works.:)

Something else you could try is a flat install. I had problems with the RC too, and this method not only worked, but saved an awful lot of time too when repeated attempts were necessary.
