    POSTED BY Psique Angelus
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My AVG detected a trojan dialer. no specific name and it couldn't remove it. it's in C:\RECYCLER. How do i manually delete the infected file? is it safe to delete anything from C:\RECYCLER?

    pls help...thanks!

Can you boot into safe mode Command prompt, and delete it from there? It should be safe to delete anything in C:\recycler

Usually emptying the Recycle Bin will clear that folder.

These steps should work for you..........

    Click Start
    Click Run
    Type cmd.exe
    Press [Enter]
    Type c:
    Press [Enter]
    Type cd recycler
    Press [Enter]
    Type attrib /s /d
    Press [Enter]
    Do you see the files?
Delete them with the "del" command
Each user's "Bin" will contain a desktop.ini and INFO02 file. (DO NOT delete these)
To delete your files, type del c:\recycler\filename.ext
    Press [Enter]

you will need to use the del command on each file to delete if their are more than 1.

I've used Adaware and Spybot to clean trojans in the past with some success.

Don't forget the excellent a2 software which is capable of dealing with most
Worms and Trojan and Removes existing Malware on your PC. You can find out more about it here

ok guys. thanks a lot. i've gotten rid of it already. actually my problem is i get connected to the internet but IE says 'page cannot be displayed'. msn messenger, yahoo messenger and ICQ don't work either. at first i thought it was because of the dialer but i'm still having the problem. u guys have any idea? i've already called DELL's tech support but he said I might hafta reinstall the OS. it's my cousin's comp actually. im helping her out.

Lets see, the last computer I rescued with the same problems went like this:

    reinstalled OS
    ran antivirus
    ran spybot and adaware
    ren registry cleaner/optimizer

In hindsight, I'd skip the os reinstall.
