help i've lost "my documents"......

i recently installed my hard drive from my older computer in to another machine. once installed i deleted every thing bar "my documents" and am unable to access my documents. an error message appears: access denied. checking the size of my documents says is empty. but checking the disk space of the hard drive 60gig of 80gig is occupied. i;ve screwed up can any one help me???? recovery software dosen't work. when i've searched for file on the drive none that would be in my document would show.
