Help! I've Messed Something Up

I'm on Windows 8.1 and, usually, when I try to move something, I'm asked how I want to move it which is great because I often pick up things by mistake so I like being able to cancel a move. But a few minutes ago, I deliberately moved a file from one folder to another but I wasn't asked how I wanted to move it. The file just went into the other folder. How did I turn off that feature, and does anyone know if I can turn it back on again?

I have never seen such a prompt other than sending a file to the Recycle Bin. I also did a search and could not find any indication online that this is a built in feature on Windows. Did you download a 3rd party software for this?

I didn't find anything on Major Geeks, but did find this software: http://broken-e.com/dragdropconfirm/ Just as a warning...I have no knowledge about it and can't vouch for it in any way. If you do use it, I would scan the download before installing with this: https://www.virustotal.com/

That's REALLY bad news then for me. I don't mean the kind of prompt you get when you right click on a file and select delete. I mean when you click and drag a file. Say I want to copy something somewhere for example. If I right-click inside the folder and select paste, I'll get a prompt asking if I want to copy with TeraCopy, Explorer, or Cancel. And underneath I'm given the option of showing that dialog prompt the next time. Well I used to see a similar prompt every time I tried to move a file, except I've evidently now unchecked the box saying show this prompt next time without realizing it, and I need to get it back.

When you drag n drop a file to a folder it does show the words 'move to....' but it's only momentary and if you do the move fast it will be gone before you noticed it. It's as simple as that. The prompt is automatic in my experience of Win 8 or 10 (it was in Vista and 7 too).

Problem solved. I accidentally almost moved something from a folder to the desktop and got the usual prompt, move with TeraCopy, Explorer, or cancel, and the box saying show this dialog next time was checked. What went wrong so I didn't see the prompt last time or what went right so I did see it this time, I have no idea. Anyway, fixed now.

That's not quite the kind of prompt I'm talking about. Anyway, it's fixed now. Maybe it was just a glitch or something.

So you are using third party software since that is what TeraCopy would be. That is why you're getting the prompt. Glad you figured it out but when you add something like that it's important to note that in your question.

Sorry, didn't realize the TeraCopy thing was important. TeraCopy just came with my computer when I bought it, so I assumed the prompt was standard.
