I have just spent the day going through all the hoops cleaning the computer and searching for malware.

    Java still will not install.

I get "Installer: Wrapper.CreateFile failed with error 5: Access is denied" when I try to manually install

    I get "Error – Java™ Installer

    Download Failed
    From=http://Javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/GetFile/1.6.0_26-b110/windows-i586/jrel.6.0_26-c-l.msi,
    To=C:\Users\.....\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\jrel.6.0_26-c-l.msi"
when I try to install from the website.

I see four other threads here with similar problems I will read them now.

    Forgot some vital information
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium , Service Pack 1, 64 bit
    Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 900 @ 2.20GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10
    Processor Count: 1
    RAM: 1915 Mb
Graphics Card: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family, 829 Mb
    Hard Drives: C: Total - 227812 MB, Free - 150339 MB; E: Total - 476821 MB, Free - 315416 MB;
Motherboard: TOSHIBA, Portable PC, Base Board Version, Base Board Serial Number
Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials, Updated and Disabled

I read the other threads, similar problem but different errors

My history with Java - A website that uses Java stopped working, they recommended updating Java. That did not work. Sun recommends that all previous versions of Java be uninstalled before installing the newest version. Did that. Tried to install online, no go. Tried to install offline, different error but still no go.

I am at a total loss for ideas.

because it was being misused by individuals who had no idea what the program was actually supposed to do,and their systems got mucked-up,so MS stopped recommending it,now its a 3'rd party app,if you know what you need to remove ,it'll do the job

Just noticed that you are on a 64-bit system. You may need to download and install both x86 (for 32-bit applications) and x64 (for 64-bit applications) versions of JRE.

Done that a few days ago. Still the same error.

I have not uninstalled FireFox yet. I was told that may fix it. I hesitate because I would lose all my bookmarks :(

You won't lose your bookmarks if you download and install MozBackup and do a bookmarks backup. http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

I usually make a weekly profile backup and also a separate bookmarks backup with that software even though Fx does automatically create bookmark backups in its profile. To get your bookmarks back you just do a *restore* in MozBackup.

Actually I have tried to install "jre-7-windows-x64" from that same website

So I tried the "jre-6u26-windows-i586" and the "jre-6u26-windows-x64" as suggested

    I still get the "Error
Installer: Wrapper.CreateFile failed with error 5: Access is denied" kiss of death

I try both double clicking the file and run as administrator - same thing

I have done the manual install

    See post #14

I have used JavaRa, I have search through registry files renaming anything saying Java
I have tried Java version 6 and Java version 7 Online offline upside down and backwards

I went through the MajorGeeks hoops, followed directions to the letter looking for trojans, virus, and malware. My computer is squeaky clean but it will not install Java.

    I still get
    "Error
Installer: Wrapper.CreateFile failed with error 5: Access is denied"
I am not the only one

I had this same problem and found no cure for it at all. So what I did and it allowed it, was install a previous version and then waited for the next version to come out. That seemed to work, for me at least and I use windows 7 x64

Just a note, maybe you do not need Java. I have 7 computers in the house. Java is only installed on one of them. I do not notice things broken. Of course, you might have a program that desperately needs it. Apparently, I don't have anything that screams about needing java.

That is quite possible; I wish I had a list of applications that require JRE (and .NET Framework)...

    Here are two I know:
    • OpenOffice.org
    • LibreOffice
And at least one website I use regularly does:

Secunia does not need java. I use the site on 4 computers and only one of those has java installed. Do not get javascript confused with java - they are two different things.

I download the PSI scanner and run it. It did not need java in the past. I know there is a newer version so I'm not sure if they upped the requirements.

The reason I removed java from all but one computer is to remove another vulnerability and constant patching and updating. Between windows, pdf reader, and security programs, I could spend hours updating and patching. The less I have to patch, the more time I get to enjoy the computer. ;)

Where do I get an older Java version to download?

Installed Version 5 Update 22 both 32 and 64 bit

It works in Explorer, does not work in Firefox

    Hi Friends,

I do believe I have solved the elusive "Installer: wrapper.CreateFile failed with error 5: Access is denied." error dialog box that appears after installing Java 6 or higher SDK or JRE. I fought this problem for about 5 hours before finally fixing it.

The JavaRA program while good, it does not remove all the installed elements and permutations of java program files. It is a good initial first step. But, JavaRA ignores Java FX and Java SDK program files. You need to do all of the following steps for Windows 7. XP and Vista will be very similar.

    1. Use a good uninstall program like IOBit Uninstaller in Adanced Mode using the "Powerful Scan" feature to remove all the java program listings and registry entries.

    2. Set your Windows Explorer folder options to view hidden folders and system files.

    2. Go to the Appdata/Locallow directory and delete the entire "Sun" folder & all subfolders.

    3. Go to the Appdata/Local/Temp directory and delete the Java folder and any temporary java files you see here.

    4. Go to the Program Files directory and delete the java folder.

    5. Go to the Program Data directory and delete the java folder if there is one.

    6. Empty your recycle bin of all the files you just deleted, so they don't have a chance to restore themselves during the java reinstallation.

    7. Go to java.com and download and install the latest offline program version of Java JRE. And, if you are a programmer, get the Java SDK too.

I discovered this error while installing the latest version java after removing 188 viruses from one of my customer's computers with Avast. However, I don't know which of the viruses caused this issue, but the customer was running an up to date version of Webroot for their virus protection.

I hope this helps you and saves you some frustration.

May Honor always know your deeds well! :)
