Golden Keylogger was installed on my computer to monitor the kids.

But somehow they have figured out a way to disable it. How did they do that? And how do I stop them from doing it again?

    Thanks

This not a malware related problem. I'm moving this to the Software Forum.

So they might of used task manager to shut it down and disabling it that way or one of your antivirus picked it up as a "hacking tool" and deleted it? Maybe you should try setting up parental controls?

I have just read the homepage of that software you use and i can see at least 2 options which should help, well firstly in the cofiguration screen, enable the password protection if you havent already done so, secondly use the tick box to "dont show program icon at startup". also change your chidrens accounts to either guest user accounts or limited user accounts in XP (im assuming your using xp) on no acount give them administrator accounts and make sure they dont know your administrator password (you should be at least set up as administrator) there are a few free programs which will deny access to Task Manager on non administrator accounts, in fact im not sure if a guest account CAN access task manager. there are many things you can do from within windows as admin to prevent unauthorised access to system components like hiding the run dialog box etc.. none of these measures should prevent them from running msn or whatever they use, neither should it stop them from running games. it will however prevent them from installing any software or prying into your folders. most games and software give you the option during install to "set up for this user only" or "set up for all users". have a good look around the windows help files on users and passwords, its not as bad as you think. :)

Ps. although i offer help in software, my main field is hardware, i will only offer help on something i think i can contribute to, on no account will i offer "guesses" or false information. thankyou

    just noticed this

    Golden Keylogger Features:

    Friendly & intuitive interface
    Password protection
Invisible in the Windows startup list
Invisible in Windows NT/2000/XP process list

    Internal report viewer
    Sends log by e-mail

check task manager (right click blank area on start bar - task manager) to see if this is true about being "invisible" ususally this is not true, it will be visivble but may be running as a service under svchost, in which case is stoppable under the admin tools - services, so make sure the kids arnt administrators, they will not have access to the services console.

I set up all the features that come along with the program: password protected, doesn't show up in the task manager, unistall list, and no icon at startup.

What do you mean it is stoppable in svchost? Does that have anything to do with the registry?

I know we have put these programs on the computer: CCleaner, HDCleaner, SpyBot Srch/Destry and RegCleaner? Can these stop the program or are they doing it some other way?

    Thanks for the help

In my opinion, if you have to install a keylogger because you don't trust what they're doing, they shouldn't be using the computer at all without you around.

Tend to agree with Tonglebeak, but kids being kids they will only go elsewhere and use "unprotected" PC's.
Have you considered what you will do when the program confirms your suspicions?
You already know what they are doing, from previous. Bazza

Im not sure of the other programs but spybot srch/destroy may definately pick up on it and remove its startup registry keys, by svchost i meant that such a program has to be using something windows based to do its job, that program could use the "svchost" as do many other programs, which is why you see (and is normal) a few svchost entries in task manager. through elimination it is possible (but unlikely) to stop programs by "stopping" the svchost associated with it. however there is a posibility that a critical sytem file will be using the svchost (service host) and would likely result in XP shutting down due to a sudden end in such a file. i was just trying to think of other ways they could be bypassing the keylogger. I know that my sisters pc came with some kind of program that also takes screen shots ever so often and it was installed with the pc when she bought it, her kids know about it and this put the fear into them and also as i was there to set the pc up i warned them (and lied a little) about not trying to mess with the pc, in anycase i only set them up with guest accounts, they have no access to xp higher functions, have no idea how to anyway, and the pc is in the hall near her front room so they can pretty much see what the kids are up to anyway, they are 18, 16, 12, 9 . my nephew (18) isnt bothered about the pc anyway lol, the other 3 always fight over it and only ever play games on it.my sister is set up administrator so if they want to install new games she has to do it. xp is very security minded and can be set up in many ways not to allow unwanted intrusions. :)

    Try a hardware solution? http://www.keycatcher.com/
They attach behind the computer between the pc & keyboard cable.

Spybot S&D might be flagging it as bad, and removing it. Keyloggers are normally considered malware and Spybot may be the reason it keeps disappearing on you. Reinstall the program, run Spybot, check and see if it is being flagged for removal; if so, then add it to Spybot's ignore list.
