    Hey mateys..

    got a problem over here..

laptop (acer aspire 4736z) won't boot either way..

safe mode, last known good configuration, start windows normally,

nothing worked... in starting windows normally,, it would load my windows xp...

loading screen.., but after 5 mins... BSOD.. it says unmountable boot volume...

so i tried booting in the microsoft recovery console...

yeah it loaded... but after loading it will freeze,, then shows a BSOD (blue screen of death) saying the same thing.. unmountable boot volume...

now.. i have read that i should run the command chkdsk,,,

btw, i also tried booting via windows xp installer cd, but as the drivers were loaded.., windows was supposed to start.. then boom BSOD again...

    help anyone?

the BSOD started when my bro was just surfing the net.. i dont really know...

    no new hardware installation...

i cant get into the recovery console... help...

Are you sure you are booting from CD?

Check your boot order in BIOS. Probably F2 immediately and repeatedly after hitting the power button on. There should be an entry for Boot Order or similar wording make sure CD is before Hard Drive.

If you are booting to CD ok then what screens are you seeing before the BSOD? You can't get to the screen where you press "R" to enter recovery console?

EDIT: Just to be sure you are running XP on this laptop?

Yes sir.. i cant get to that screen... BSOD before that screen...

yes i am pretty sure my OS is Windows XP SP 2..

and im sure im properly booting from the xp cd installer...

at setup screen.. windows setup would load the necessary drives right?

then after loading those devices/drives... when it says windows is starting at the bottom.. it would be BSOD...

unmountable boot volume is a problem with your hard drive.
have you tried to access the drive from dos?
use a dos bootable cd or usb flash drive to boot to win98 dos and f-disk to see if there is access to the drive.

I think your going to find your hard drive is dead check the connections make sure its powered and connected correctly.

well.. i can access my HD alright...

right now... i was able to go to the recovery console using an installer...

    what should i do?

since my system restore is turned off...

how can i fix my system?

    any suggestion?

i already started the "chkdsk /r"

    is that enough already????

Let the chkdsk /r run as that is the best bet.

Before leaving recovery console after the chkdsk has completed--at the prompt type dir C:\ and make sure there is a boot.ini file showing in the list of files.
