Help Locking Vista account

Hey guys im not sure if this is the right section for this question but im having a little trouble locking up my account on my new notebook (compaq presario a900). when i try to create a password to lock up my account it tells me " windows cannot change password"...i dont see why it says "change" because its a brand new computer and it has never had a password on here. anyone know what might cause this to happen and how i can fix it? thanks in advance

 

nope there was never an initial password. i follow the same instructions on your link but the same pop up comes out saying "windows cannot CHANGE password" its weird....

 

I've recently installed Vista on computers and it has always asked me to create a username and password before installation completes. Did Vista come preinstalled in your notebook, mihavana21? The one time I had the computer shop preinstall Vista, they put "User" as the username and password.

 

that link is for someone that cant get in to their account. my problem is alittle weirder lol. ill look through the link you gave me and see what i can find. i dont know why windows cant give me more information on WHY it CANT change password. well ill try and figure it out, if you find anymore information let me know. thanks for all the help

 

yea vista came preinstalled on the notebook. what i did to fix the problem was creating a new admin account and it let me password lock that one so i deleted the one that was giving me trouble. it let me transfer everything in a folder so i didnt lose anything. i was starting to get worried my computer was messing up on me lol
