Help! Looks like we need a new motherboard

One of our computers keeps turning itself off. A while back we replaced the power supply and the CPU fan and it seemed to correct the problem. Now we are back to square one ... it turns itself off and I'm not quite sure why but I suspect the on-board video.

So, looks like we may need a new motherboard. This computer has an IDE HDD for the boot drive running Windows XP and an additional 1TB SATA

We need support for both these drives as well as an IDE CD drive and plenty of USB ports.

We would like as fast of a board with as much memory as will fit with these needs that will fit our existing box and power supply.

Any suggestions/recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Could you please post the make and model of the problematic computer?

You'll also have to post your budget along with the computer model or at least the power supply specs or we have nothing to go on.

Do you just want a motherboard? Or do you want a cpu, motherboard ram combo, imo go with the latter as you won't spend much more than a new identical replacement motherboard.

For such an old computer if you just want a motherboard you better looking on ebay or used computer fairs and don't spend more than $10-20.

It is a generic box that we built some years ago.

Yes, we are looking for a motherboard combo with cpu and ram. Since we do not have a video card on-board video would be good. This is not for gaming so we don't need something streamlined for that but would like something that is fast for general use and Internet.

The box is a full sized tower and supports ATX and has a 500w power supply.

I will try to get the model of the current MB and post it ... but this is a computer that is not in my home so I have to go where it is to get additional information.

The MB is a Biostar MCP6P M2+ Ver 6.1 with AMD CPU running Windows Vista

We were wanting to put Windows XP on when we get the unit back up.

The IDE drive is the one with the OS. The SATA Drive does not have a boot sector on it. It was formated as data storage.

The power supply was replaced with the 500W one we have on there now.

A ready to go combo board with CPU and memory seems like the way to go ... need recommendations since it has been a while since I have shopped for one and do not know where or what is they way to go at the present time.

That's actually below the minimum really, if that's your absolute ceiling I would suggest maybe used parts maybe a used mobo from Ebay, any that fits your cpu socket should be fine.

Here is a deal from new egg, cpu, mobo, mem You don't really have any choice just go for what's on offer if you can stretch another $20, for that you get a 3,7ghz dual core and 4gb of memory.

For a little more you can have this, an I3 bundle which is much preferred.

I don't live in the US so I'm sure others will know of better deals:)
