Got a laptop with no CDROM or disk drive. I lost power half way through SP2 install and now it won't boot in any mode. Says windows could not load cause ntfs.sys is missing or corrupted. How can i fix this???

How was windows installed on the notebook originally? Find the answer to that and that is how you will do a repair to it.

The computer was bought on ebay so not sure how they installed it.

Two possible solutions but in each case, you will need to spend $$$.
Get into the BIOS and see what options the computer gives you as boot options.
If you have an option to boot from a USB drive, buy an external USB burner, put the XP CD in it and do a repair install.

If the computer can't boot from a USB drive, take the hd out, attach it as a slave drive to another computer (internal you will need to buy a conversion kit 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" OR an external enclosure so you can attach it by USB externally) then work on repairing it using the other computers operating system.

You will need to buy usb cd or DVD drive, set you bios to boot off the drive, then borrow an installation cd, boot from it, enter the Windows Console and type fixmbr, enter, fixboot, enter, exit, enter. FIXMBR grabs the original MBR code from the drive's EEPROM chip and restores it, effectively wiping out anything that might be in there, be it LILO, GRUB, a Windows bootloader, and any possible traces of a virus, etc. When that command is finished, the MBR is as good as it was the moment the drive passed QA testing at the factory.

FIXBOOT restores the native ability for Windows to boot with the NTLDR file and bootloader, simply put.

FIXMBR first, then FIXBOOT right after that, then type exit and press Enter to reboot the 'puter.

If you are successful so far, reboot with the borrowed disk, do the same thing you did before to get to the windows console, but don't select the windows console, keep going til you are asked if you want to do a repair and do that.

Otherwise you are going to have to buy a copy of windows or switch to ubuntu.
