    Help, anyone please!!

A couple of weeks ago I degaused my monitor as for some weeks it had a funny colour al around the edges, which I noticed went away most times I rebooted, and also corrected itself when someone advised me to press the degaus on the OSD.

Now its worse, and pressing this button and rebooting doesnt fix it!!!

What is wrong and what can I do???!!!!

This is urgent cause I hate this - everything around the edges is faded and a weird colour!!!

Rebooting would cause your monitor to go on and off again (sort of) and as most monitors degaus when they turn off.

Is it just the degaus button that doesn't work ? DOes turning the monitor on and off fix it ?

DO you have anything magnetic near the speakers ? (I know I asked that already lol) what is near the monitor ?

No they are on the hard drive thing, and they also near a power point. thats all I can see that they are near that could effect them..

would that be the cause? they arent near anything else...can you list any sort of common things that can cause this, and also, is this a big problem...I mean, is my computer about to stop working? ?

the problem you describe is being caused by magnet, and a relativly powerful one at that. i doubt it is being caused by computer speakers that sit next to your monitor, although a subwoofer could very well cause it.
this is not a major problem, your computer isn't going to fizzle although your monitor might.
there are a couple of remedies.
first, and this is important, relocate your monitor if possible.
if it isn't then you must look for any and everything that would have a powerfull magnetic feild.

next you can go to a tv repair shop and ask them if they have a degaussing coil they will sell you. these coils get warm, even hot when used and shouldn't be used for more than 10 to 15 seconds at a time.

if you use one while the monitor is on it will look like an artist throw-up but not to worry.

last be on the lookout for another monitor, you can pick one up at the local salvation army for about 10 bucks or so.

Sorry to say, but sounds like the monitor is headed for that big LAN party in the sky.

Do you turn your monitor off when you shut down the pc?

Turning it on and off a few times could help, but don't do this too often as it wears out the switch.

there is a subwoofer on the other side of the wall (in adjacent room), although it is not opposite where the monitor is. On the other side of the wall there is also a TV and VCR/DVD etc.

There is a power meter box on the other side of another wall, but not the wall that the monitor sits along.

Other than that, I am at a loss as to what is - is it all or one of these things??

Yes I do switch the monitor off whenever the computer is switched off.

BTW, the problem only happened since i replaced a keyboard. I now have one of those keyboards that have those buttons along the top - www, sleep, favourites and so on. Could this have anything to do with it?

My monitor did this recently, here is how I fixed that:

    1. Make sure monitor is on
    2. While monitor is on, unplug power cord from either outlet or monitor (whichever is easier)
    3. Wait about 30 secs to a minute, then plug the power back in.
    4. turn the monitor back on, and it should be fixed.

This also works on Tube TVs
