HELP: Major problems after cleanup of virus and spyware

Someone in the household turned off the firewall on the computer. I didnt know how long the computer was on for but there was a ton of spyware, adware, and trojans on the computer afterward. After rebooting into safemode to eliminate all these malware, explorer.exe did not start to bring up a gui. Furthermore, when I manually ran explorer.exe I couldnt view hidden files. I would click view files and then it went back to the screen where it says these were system files yadda yadda yadda. I ran anti spyware - spybot, spysweeper, and adaware - and norton virus scan in safe mode. Everything is clean but the computer still acts like this. Also the recycle bin is malfunctioning. I cant explore it at all or drag anything into it to delete. When I double click it it brings up my computer.

Please help. I have tried everything I could think of but it aint working. Is there anything more I can do or should I just bite the bullet and wipe the drive clean and start fresh?

Follow precisely the instructions in this thread and then make a fresh posting in the Malware Forum as per the instructions. You'll have to wait paitently for a response..the guys in there are real busy and go on a first come first served basis, so bumping your post will only put you further down the list
