I am new to the computer world, and I need someone to tell me if these programs are ok to keep on my windows 98 SE? I am going to be giving my friend this computer and I would like to clean it out, but need it to be internet ready for her.

You can uninstall J2SE RunTime Environment 5.0 Update 8 and J2SE RunTime Environment 5.0 Update 9, then install J2SE RunTime Environment 5.0 Update 10.

1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 10:
2. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
3. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
4. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
5. Click the Change/Remove button.
6. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
7. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
8. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_10-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
