help me please!

I have an older notebook pc, and something screwed up and it would no longer load windows(windows protection error). I thought "that's ok, I want to upgrade from 98 to xp anyway" so I backed up the files on my sister's pc and formatted my harddrive. Now I figured I could just insert the winxp cd and it should install...nope. It wants a boot disk, and I've checked my BIOS to switch to cd-rom as my boot device. NO LUCK. Now I have an empty hdd and no way to access it from my notebook...I can do whatever I want from my sister's pc...if that helps. Any advice?

 

Sounds like you need a boot disk (3.5 floppy) available several places here are a few..

Does your "older" laptop have a floppy--
you can DL on your sisters pc/ make your boot disk from there and run it on yours

 

I've tried to make a backup, but it doesn't seem to work, one of the two sites you posted was one of the ones I used. My sister's pc is xp, and I have learned that I cannot run xp on my pc, so I need to load 98...can you walk me through an installation...all I have is a burnt copy of the windows 98 disk, SE, on a cd-r. Thanks.

 

The file you can dl on your sisters pc is most likely a zip or other unpcaker program so...Save the file to your sisters pc(make sure you have the correct one for 98) then unzip or?? to the 3.5 floppy then put the floppy in your pc --go to bios --boot to floppy--save changes and exit--it will boot the floppy that contains the drivers for cd players then choose boot w/ cd support--ta da that should do it
