Help me plz!

Heres my story, hopefully one of u smart geeks can help me! Also let me say I LOVE this site and I have visted here many times over the years, Now I seek help,advice!

A few weeks ago my compaq with windows xp sp 2, crashed, I lost my hard drive. My husband had a friend who changed out my hard drive ( against my wishes) Well he installed the hard drive from a computer that he wasnt using, NOW I KNOW WHY!!! The OS is windows ME! Which I despise! Im at the end of my ropes here, even comtiplating using system recovery disk to attempt to get windows xp back! I will try to download certain tools and it tells me I dont have enough RAM. According to my system properties I have 576.0 MB of RAM which 65% is free. Also there are programs that I want to delete but I cant because it requires a disc to remove the program! I cant even do simplle things like log into messenger without getting a funky error message unlike any other ive seen in the past! If anyone has any suggestions or need more info! plz let me know!!! no XP disk, what are the errors? me, is well you know but , if you have no xp disk your stuck....help is still there

 

The only thing I have at this point is my recovery disc that came with my computer, Ive been doing some research and according to microsoft I can upgrade to Xp.SO if I do buy Xp, is everything going to be great again? Or will I contiune to have problems, such as error messages? Or should I invest in a new hard drive or just set this system out for trash pickup?

Well If I was on Xp I could tell you that info lol, but since im lost in the ME I cant! BTW Im not scared, Im just an Xp freak trying to deal with this situation! lol

 

not arguing but you said you were on xp,
doesn't matter, have you done a spybot, adaware, hijakthis?
you may be able to fix these errors this way

Yes I was on Xp until my hard drive crashed and a friend put in a new hard drive containing windows ME. Ill check into getting some good clean programs tomorrow, Off to bed! TY for any help/advice..Misery

Look on the side or back of your Compaq PC; look for a Microsoft sticker with 5 groups of 5 mixed letters and numbers. This sticker will tell you if the PC originally came with WinXP or WinME. If it says Windows XP then you can use your recovery CD to reload the Windows XP and get rid of ME. If the sticker says Windows ME, your only solution is to buy Windows XP from your favorite software outlet. It retails for $100-$200 for XP Home Edition.....
