Hello, I downloaded the new mozilla, shortly afterwards I couldn't login to any sites that required login and password. Now it won't even open and I can't uninstall it. I went to control panel and when I try to uninstall it, I either get a message that I must first close mozilla (how can I close it if it won't open) or else when I try to uninstall...nothing happens.

This problem is on my notebook...it's working fine on my desktp. I running vista. Can anyone help me out here?

    Thanks in advance

Look in your Task Manager. Is firefox.exe listed there, when FF is closed?
If it is, end the process and then try to uninstall it.
Also, you could try the uninstall while in Safe Mode.

Tks for the reply. Task manager does not show mozilla running. I started in safe mode but I still can't uninstall mozilla. When I click to uninstall nothing happens. If I can't uninstall in safe mode, what am I to do?

tks I may try one of those suggestions. I'm by no stretch of the imagination competent to work under the hood on computers. That being said, I'm seeing some sort of error message from time to time when I start Windows, but it only shows for about one second before going off. Is there a safe way for a dummy to check my pc for problems? Something that I can't screw-up. I'm quite apprenhensive about fooling around with things I know nothing about.

Take a look in Start>All Programs and look for a folder called Maintenance.
(I'm not sure if that is a Vista folder for sure, but I do have it)
    Click Problem Reports and Solutions.
That may give you an idea of what your error message is.

Also, you can try this, to capture your error message.
When you start Windows, press the Print Scr(een) key, the second you see the message.
Then, go to Start>All Programs>Accessories and click Paint.
When it opens, click Edit in the Menu and choose Paste.
You should be able to see your error message if you pushed Print Screen fast enough.
Save it to Desktop or somewhere you can find it later.

This is getting ridiculous. Problem Report and Solutions tells me Firefox isn't working....duh! Solution was to contact Mozilla support, so I tried to post in their support forum and can't even get in to post, I get this error...

From what I just read, the safest way would be to try installing the newest version, on top of the version you have already installed. That should fix any problems.

    You can also try this:
Open the C:\Users\\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder and delete the file "xpicleanup.dat" (you may need to first end the "xpicleanup" process, if found, in Windows Task Manager and delete the file "xpicleanup.exe" in the Firefox installation directory)
    Then uninstall.
