Help, multiple programs aren't working!

Hello i am new to this board but i am hoping you can help me with some problems. 3 days ago i started getting wierd problems on my comp, it started when i tried to log onto AIM but my buddy list woudn't show. I reinstalled it to try to fix the problem but since then things have gotten worse.

Here are my Problems:

• AOL instant messenger, will not show buddy list and will terminate process after a varying tim frame, ranging 10 seconds to 10 minutes.

• Sometimes when i try to download things in IE or Firefox the webpage will just close.

• I cannot change Norton antivirus to auto protect and when i try to do a system scan i get this error:

I did my best to run scans before posting but since Norton doesn't work and i cannot download anything i am in a bind.

By the way is there any way i can permanently disable the language bar? Its driving me crazy.

Norton without autoprotect is useless.
Reinstall.

 

To turn off the language bar, follow THESE steps.

If Norton worked prior to this and it was only three days ago then is System Restore an option?

Did you use any scanner programs or clean up programs that may have removed some vital Norton or AIM files? If so, they generally have a backup or quarrantine to restore them.

Reinstalling Norton would be a last resort as removing Norton can be very intensive and perilous. Not only that but it doesn't explain the other "incidents".

I would try everything else first but if you do always uninstall Norton through Add/Remove. (BTW, what version of Norton is it?)

I would strongly suggest though as a first step you go to the Spyware Forum and follow their recommendations to rule out infection.
