    Hi,

I just wanted to start by saying a very big thankyou to all of you that help people on this forum. It is very generous of you and it is appreciated.

I had been infected by this fake security application that said "Windows Security has found critical process activity on your system". With the help of Tim from this forum i was able to get rid of the malware however i now have another problem.

I now have a message that says "SQL Server could not find the default instance (MSSQLSERVER) - please specify the name of an existing instance on the invocation of sqlservr.exe........" whenever i start my computer and it takes a long time before all the applications are loaded and ready to be accessed.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

    Thankyou

    Hi,
Search your disks for sqlservr.exe, and when you find it for instance in
    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe",
open a command line window and run it with -v as argument
if not try to reinstall the server.

    Hi,

Thankyou so much for helping. I really appreciate it.

I ran a search and found something similar to what you suggested but no the same

what it found was "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\MSSQL\Binn

What do you mean by "open a command line window and run it with -v as argument" could you step me through this?

    Thankyou again

how do i uninstall it - i have tried removing it using add remove programs and it says there is a fatal error when trying to remove Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine but other programs with Microsoft SQL name were removed.

    Thanks
