UNless I run c cleaner and comando cleaner 3-4 times per day, it takes up so much memory that it locks up. I went to Msconfig and saw that I had 4 programs cduring startup that didn't need to run, unchecked them, hit apply and then went back to main window of msconfig and they showed up again. I tried to clean them with C cleaner tools and no luck there. I have 1 GB RAM with Pentium 4 so should do just fine . Is there any rogram would give you guys info on what is going on and then you could help me out here?

    Hi

What version of Windows you using?

msconfig is not the best application to manage startup as its not designed to do this and can cause other issues if you uninstall and app you have managed with it, StartupCPL is best to use to manage startups.

How much free Hard Drive space do you have left on your main HDD? Right click in MY/Computer the HDD and choose Properties.

What are the 4 that keep returning?

I am running Windows XP service pack 3. I downloaded the startup program. What do I have to do to make it work? Also, I downloaded the startup stopper program from the same website. In ref to other memory, I have the following:
    free physical memory 283 mb
free virtual memory - 1996 mb

I did not see it when I did a right click of MY Computer, but I did find it when I did Belarc Analysis - It said I had 137.42 GB Usable and 78.92 free

The 4 files I had running stopped running after I installed the Startup program you requested

    Th other questions
    1. Is there a program that I can run that will generate a log file to help you guys understand what is going on with my computer?
    2. I typically have around 50 processes running when I boot up. THat seems to be too many. How do I know which ones do not need to be running and how do I stop them.
    3. I have a file called rundll32 that gets upwards of 150,000K memory usage

    1. A log file would just speed up the process of using RAM and locking up your computer.
    2. Unless you post the 50 processes, we have no way to tell if they are needed for your system. It varies from computer to computer as to what is needed.
    3. rundll32 is part of windows - let it alone.

What security programs are you running? Some of them have been known to generate logs that consume hd space daily.

How do I know which programs are security programs? THat is why I thought I could send you guys something to tell you what I have. Help me out here - what am I looking for?

Another thing, you said you have cCleaner, if you go to the tools section and click startup, take a picture of this page and post here.(Hold down ctrl, press print screen, open paint program, click edit, then paste, save file and attach to your post).
Don't use cCleaner to stop any programs though. But we can tell you which programs you can stop with StartupCPL, (yes, I know he could follow this procedure with the StartupCPL, I just don't happen to have that program and I don't remember which tab he should look at).
One way to determine which programs are absolutely essential to your machine is to follow the above procedure after booting into safe mode, only essential programs, for the most part, are loaded. This is the exact procedure I use in my senior classes.

here is the page of startup listing startup programs

Not sure what that is a picture of, but it shows only 5 programs running. If that is accurate, that's not your problem. But could you try that again out of the cCleaner page. Should look like the attachment.

That is correct - that is all that CCleaner showed for startup. What else could it be? Another person said security programs but I do not know how to tell what security programs or firewalls I Have running. TYpically, I run between 60-80% of ram with internet on and sometimes it maxs out but is sooooooooooooooooooooooo slow.

Well that eliminates the most likely cause. You can try a defrag, though I doubt that'll help. I'd run both the Norton and Mcaffee uninstall tools, then from a cmd prompt a SFC /scannow. Then chkdsk /f program. That would eliminate the most common conflicts/system/HD suspects.
Does it run faster in safe mode?
Still bad? Starting to sound a lot like malware.

That would be your next step. :major
    Hope this helps.

    Hi

You dont have that many startups in reality, I would though using StartuCPL untick SWG (which is the google toolbar notifier) and MilShield, and remove CTFMon using this app HERE (I use this app) as unless yo uuse alternative input methods as speech and tablet pen for MS Office apps then its obsolete.

But in reality your startups are not so bad and by the looks of it all you have is AVG as your antivirus softwware and using the built in Firewall of Windows.

I would also do a defrag and use this Auslogic Disk Defrag its freeware.

Also I would boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and see if your PC is ok and runs fine in that mode, it looks graphically bad but will give a sense of if normal mode has an issue that could be malware, drivers or just corruption.

Have you used CCleaner to clear out all those AVG logs?

Someone posted here lately that AVG was generating an excessive amount of huge logs.

Still slow could I have too many securuty programs on my computer - if so, tell me how to figure it out. I know I haave come up on many sites which either have a little box with a Red X in in or some pretty colors in it. I do not want to have to defrag every day and should have to....

Is it only slow on the web? If so, what browser are you using?
Can you start in safe mode with networking? Any difference?
