My Norton virus protection, which I keep up-to-date, has reported that I have Syware on my computer. :-(
I have tried unsuccessfully to get rid of the spyware.
Norton, as you know, unfortunately doesn't get rid of spyware; it just identifies it.
I have used the four free programs, and have them installed on my computer.
I've used them a few times each, once a week.
    They are:
    AdAware
    Spybot Search and Destroy
    CWS Shredder and
    Spyware Blaster
They have not gotten rid of any spyware I have.
Norton still says that I have seven pieces of spyware - even after I use the above free software.
Now, I want to buy a program or two that will rid my computer of all spyware.
I've thought about buying both Webroot Spysweeper and Stomp Spyware X Terminator, as I've heard that one product alone will not rid a computer of all spyware.
There is also the McAffee'05 Spyware removal software, but I heard it is just in the experimental stages at the present time.
I don't want to waste my money; I want to buy one or two things that will really work.
    Please help me!
What should I buy; what can you recommend? And should I buy two spyware removal programs?
I want to get rid of all spyware on my computer.
    Thanks very much!
    Yours sincerely,
    Marti

    Hi Marti,

If you want to get rid of some troubling spyware, try running through these steps: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Note that you need to be in Safe Mode with System Restore OFF (if you have it - you didn't give OS) and have the Viewing of Hidden Files ENABLED as per the instructions in the link.
Also, make sure to do the Online Scans. They might just solve your problem ;) Let us know if we can be of assistance in the removal process.

Regarding your other questions, there is no ONE Anti-spyware program that will remove ALL malware from your computer. I am not familiar with the Stomp product - it almost sounds like a rogue. When shopping, you should bear in mind that there are a lot of rogues out there; take a look at this link first: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

I like Webroot Spysweeper. That, along with your SpyBot SD, Ad-Aware SE and Spyware Blaster ought to be more than enough to do the job! Just make sure that you Internet Update them regularly.

You should note that many here do not like Norton. MajorGeeks offers many superior AV products and some, such as AVG & Avast are FREE! At any rate, a good Anti-Virus and Firewall are invaluable! Plus, you can always fall back on the Online Scans listed in the Tutorial I linked at the beginning of my post.

Please take a look at Chaslang's recommendations HERE: How to protect yourself from malware!

If you have questions about any of the above tools, please post them in the Software Forum - You'll get more responses that way.

If you need help removing some spyware, post back here!

    Best :)

There is no single spyware scanning application that will take care of all problems. You will learn that while one day SpySweeper (for example) my resolve a problem that other applications may not. Then the next day you will find the reverse is true. It's a matter of what detections and removal processes that have chosen to program in to the application and who has the most recent update. Save your money and stick with the free ones like Ad-aware SE & SpyBot S&D. It's important to prevent the spyware from getting on your PC to begin with. For that, use SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard (also free). See the following link for additional tips: How to Protect yourself from malware!

EDIT: Did not see you PP! I was watching the ball game and forgot click save changes. When I did I saw you!
