Download a disk called "low level format disk" on your computer manufacturer's website. That will get rid of everything on the website and then you can start out fresh. That is how I did it when I installed my windows xp pro.

When you download the program for low level format you will have to put it on a floppy disk since nothing will be on the computer and you will no place to open it when done. Then when that is done you will have to install windows xp by going to the Boot menu when your computer first starts up and selecting the cd rom drive as the primary boot drive. Then restart your computer. This will make ur computer check your cd rom drive for system filse such as windows before anything else. After it does that it will run the cd rom and it should bring up the installation.

    Well, I wouldn't low-level format it. That's kinda overkill.

I'm also assuming there's no data on the hard drive you want, otherwise you wouldn't be asking how to delete everything and start over. If there's stuff you or your father wants, get it off 'cause it's about to be gone permanently.

What you're going to want to do is known as a "clean install" of Windows XP. I found a very good tutorial on Microsoft's website. If you don't have a second PC to use, print it off for reference:
Performing a Clean Install of Windows XP

If that one doesn't help, here's another one.

It's really not that difficult. Just remember to tell the Setup program that it should reformat the system drive before installation begins.

Agree wit Da Chicken. If you boot from the XP CD, everything will be there to do a clean install. Just select what you want to do.
