I have a gateway solo 9550 operating system win xp and my laptop will not turn on. The original problem started as the plug into the laptop was loose and wouldn't stay on and if I moved the laptop it would shut off. Now when I plug it in the light comes on that it is plugged in but when I hit the power up button all the lights light up but no display. I was networked to 2 other desktops......I need to get the files and pictures off of it. How can I do this. It is not showing up in my network anymore.

Without diagnosing the laptop problem you can remove the harddrive from the laptop and connect it to your desktop system and remove the files, you made need a small converter to connect the drive to an IDE cable depending on the drive.

Here is some info off of the hard drive that I am assuming would be useful in assisting me with the proper thingamajig to retrieve the info via my desk top pc

    It is an: IBM Travelstar
    Model # DJSA-220
    5V 500mA
    20.00 GB ATA/IDE
    4200 RPM

This came out of a Gateway Solo 9550 with operating system Windows XP

Maybe buy a 2½" external USB housing, and install your hard drive into that. Plug it into another computer and all your files should be available. Bazza
