Help, need to find gaming pc

I've been trying to find a fairly good gaming pc, moniter and keyboard and mouse. with a budget of $600. the only specifics im looking for is a geforce 4 amd athleon xp 2600 + 30gb, 256mbs. and 17 inch crt moniter. is this possible? please help ive been looking for about 3 months

 

Well, you should be able to get that for $600, but I would go even better for that price. For example:

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton (333 fsb) $82
nForce 2 Ultra 400 based motherboard (MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, or Abit) ~$100
512 Mb (2x256Mb) of PC 2700 RAM ~$80
Radeon 9600 Pro 128Mb (DirectX 9 compatible) ~$130
80Gb Western Digital HDD w/ 8Mb of cache ~$80
17" CRT monitor (Samsung) ~$140

Total: ~$612

 

You should be able to do it for that price, as long as you're fairly choosy where to get your parts from.

If you can procure any parts, such as cases, keyboards, mice, A-drives etc., for nothing from old machines, it will help in the pricing a lot. People are often chucking out old machines for nothing or dirt cheap at flea markets and such.

 

My question is to you: Are you looking to build your own or buy a ready-built machine?
