    Hi Everyone,

I am getting an error message randomly saying 'display driver stopped responding and has recovered'. I have installed the latest drivers for the video card, wanting to know if anyone has any idea of what else it could be.

    My system is as follows,

    MB: GA-990FXA-D3
    Video: AMD radeon 7800
    memory: Kingston AMD DDR3 8gb
    Power Supply: Antec 620c

    Thanks Everyone!

    Greetings, Blondie72...

What's your operating system version and Service Pack #, and what's your graphics driver version #? To grab this information navigate to Control Panel > System Properties for the OS version, and for the driver # navigate to System > Device Manager > Display Adapter - you'll probably have to expand the adapter and look at its Properties sheet.

    Hi Caliban,

    Thank you for replying.

I am using Windows 7 service pack 1. Card driver version is 9.2.0.0.

    I hope this helps,

    Thanks

    Good morning...

Agreed with voodoo - that's a pretty generic message.

Since it's an apparent random crash and not caused by some sequence of events or specific program, I'd lean towards drivers. Windows might have loaded its own software 'behind your back' which (especially with AMD devices) can cause sudden random crashes.

    My initial suggestions would be:

    1. Navigate to Start > All Programs > Windows Update. In the left pane select Change Settings, then uncheck "Recommended Updates" and Ok out.

    2. Go to AMD and drill down to find the appropriate driver package for your model.

Install the Catalyst software (I'd try to point you to the exact download but I don't know if your machine is 32-bit or 64-bit), see if your symptoms change.

Firstly, thank you both for replying, I have done both of those things and it is a 64bit os. I played LoL last night and the driver still crashed at the beginning of the game. It was only the once however which is better than what it has been.

You don't think the card is corrupt by any chance do you? I am also running 5 internal case fans, so it's not in anyway overheating.

    Thanks again!

    Good morning...

If this is not a Windows BSOD you might be able to check your Event Viewer at or near the time of the next crash to see if you can glean some info about the problem.

You might also consider loading an older AMD driver package for troubleshooting purposes.

Hardware-wise, you can try powering down your machine and re-seating the video card. While there you can inspect the area, make sure any onboard fan is clean, etc.

Hi my friend , you can use this tool

    http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Sweeper_d6171.html

    running it in Safe Mode
    when the process is finished
    you must install your machine

do the same think in Normal Mode

removing the leftovers of the driver before doing the new/clear installation :wave
