Help needed in another thread

I am assisting a poster in the driver forum here....

The poster (elli) is having an issue were they cannot access thier Device Manager, it is actually NOT there !!!! i have ran through the normal commands of ......
To access Device Manager, use any of the following methods: • Click Start, click Run, and then type devmgmt.msc.
• Right-click My Computer, click Manage, and then click Device Manager.
• Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
• Type the following command at a command prompt:
start devmgmt.msc
and this..

1.) Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

2.) At the command prompt, type cd %windir%\system32, and then press ENTER.
Note The %Windir% folder is the folder where you installed Microsoft Windows.

3.) Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
Regsvr32 Msxml.dll
Regsvr32 Msxml2.dll
Regsvr32 Msxml3.dll

4.) Type exit, and then press ENTER to close the Command Prompt window.

5.) Restart the computer.

to no avail so any help or advice on how to help the poster would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not a "geek" here - BUT

I had a friend's computer who's DM was empty - not missing - so I don't know if this will work or not but you can give it a shot:

Run services.msc

double click plug & play

configuration manager message click ok
startup type list click automatic

close and restart and see if it is there

brought his list back up - don't know if it would restore this person's or not.
