Hi ladies and gentlemen, greetings to all.:)

I have removed all the recent programs from my start menu in XP pro and would very much like to know how to get them to come back again. Any help is very much appreciated.

    Thankyou

When you open the taskbar and start menu, the second tab should say start menu, and in that box should be two choices of "start menu" or "classic start menu" and a "customize" tab .....yes?

Sadly no....I'm not using classic start menu and even if I was it only gives me the option to browse for specifics which is useful information but what I really mean is how do I set windows to start putting my recently used programs in the start menu again?

    Thanks again

    Hi!
    Try THIS:
Start>>right click an empty spot on the start menu which will bring up>>Properties>click it>>
Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window comes up>>select Start Menu tab>>Customize...In the 'Programs' section decide how many programs to show for the Programs you use most often...I have 30...the most>>click OK>>Apply>>OK again and as you use the programs they should appear in your start menu.
    :)
    Hope it helps!

Thankyou Tony but sadly though this does allocate more space for the recent programmes...it doesn't seem to have brought them back after I've used them?

    What an oddity???

How did you remove the shortcuts to start with? It's weird they just don't show up again when opened from the start menu.

    LOL yeah weird indeed friend!

I removed them by simply right clicking on them and selecting "Remove from this list".

I've been doing some research on this and so far no one has an answer?

As soon as you run a program it is logged on your Start menu list. If you go to Start, All programs, Accessories, Notepad it should now be available on the Start menu.

I was thinking you used some sort of tweak program but err umm......OK.

Go to where TimW suggested in his first post & make sure nothing has changed. Check the attachment.

    Try this...

Right click the Start button | Properties | Customize button |
General tab | Under Programs | Set Number of programs on
Start menu to 0 (zero) | Click the Clear List button | OK |
    Apply | OK

    Reboot.

Right click the Start button | Properties | Customize button |
General tab | Under Programs | Set Number of programs on
Start menu to more than zero | OK | Apply | OK

See if you start getting programs added to the list.

[[Most Frequently Used list displays programs based on how often they are
used. If you remove a program from the list, the computer resets its usage
count to zero. When the program is used again, it gains usage points and it
can reappear in the Most Frequently Used list.]]
