Help Needed

Don't know which wrong button I pushed, but I am having trouble getting into my computer on start-up. When I enter my password, the log-in screen just repeats itself. Sometimes it takes 5 or 6 repeated typing in my password before it is accepted. Can anyone help?? As far as I am concerned, Windows 10 is getting worse with each automatic update. In the right hand bottom corner of the screen I could click on the date and a calendar would pop up. Not anymore, it just stopped working one day after the screen advised "Don't turn off your computer, update in progress" After that darn UPDATE everything changed, (wish the devil had those damn programmers in Microsoft)
Any help will be welcomed.

 

Do you recall any activity - installation, uninstall or Windows Update - immediately before this happened?

 

First of all, "Thank you for your reply". To answer your question, I can't recall that I did anything just prior to every thing updating. It's possible that I pushed a wrong button unintentionally, but I really don't know. (with my memory I could hide my own Easter Eggs) I just thought there might be an easy way to find out why the password needs to be typed in several times before it's accepted. It's so frustrating. I worked as a Mechanical Engineer for almost 50 years, I can program in Fortran and Cobol 61 and Artemis 9000. but this Windows 10 really got me beat. But then again, maybe at 86 my brain is not functioning that well anymore. I was thinking of perhaps salvaging what files I can on USB's, reformat the disk and do a clean install. However, I would welcome any suggestions for doing it in an easier way,

 

I suggest your run the system file checker (sfc /scannow) via an administrator command prompt.
