Couple of kind of urgent (email tomorrow AM?) questions:

    1) Will my monitor connect to my new computer's video card?

    2) Should I make a big deal out of DDR3 v. DDR5

    DETAILS/CLUES:

    MONITOR
SONY SDM-HS95 with the following specs I found online:
    • Max Resolution 1280 x 1024
    • Max Sync Rate (V x H)75 Hz x 80 KHz
    • Signal Input VGA
    • Features Eco-Mode , sRGB color management
    • Input Analog Video Signal RGB
    • Expansion connectivity Interfaces1 x VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15)

    VIDEO CARD
I made some changes to my order and notice a difference between invoices.
My current invoice lists: ATI RADEON 5750 1GB DDR3
My original invoice lists: ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB DDR5 16X PCIe Video Card [DirectX 11 Support]
I suspect they are the same or similar, but then spotted the DDR3 v. DDR5 difference and don't know whether or not to make a big deal out of this.
I feel kind of rediculous not being able to figure this out. I think the card (if I have the right one) has these ports: pair of dual-link DVI ports, an HDMI port, and a DisplayPort, though I have seen other cards matching the same description with different ports.

    MOTHERBOARD
    Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58

I see no 14? pin RGB/VGA port (you know, a regular monitor port) anywhere, MoBo or card, and don't know what to do:
    • I'm OK as is?
    • Need some kind of adapter?
    • Need different card?
    • Must replace monitor?
    • Insist on DDR5 over DDR3?

    I appreciate all input greatly

    TIA

    [announcer voice] calm down drcarl

    *takes breath*

Just found online a reference to "DVI to VGA adapter"

    That's prolly the ticket...

    ;)

Apparently DVI to VGA is a simple matter and can be done with a small adapter or a different cord.

Now I see that another monitor I can have has a DVI port. My graphics card has a DVI port, too. So, it appears that I can go DVI to DVI. Nice. But, I have now been advised to update Win 7 before installing any graphics card drivers, and that the MoBo will send display information to the monitor with whatever is already onboard. I see no video ports on this MoBo.

This begs a new question: Will the DVI port on the graphics card work my display even before graphics card drivers are installed?

    Here's what I now believe.

    1. The DVI port will work right away.

    2. DVI to DVI connector is the normal method. Most monitors also have the old VGA port to go along with a DVI port and you can use a DVI-VGA adapter as an alternative method.

the DVI connections works just fine. At some point, I installed the graphics card's drivers. It's a beautiful experience, this machine.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

Well done drcarl. Sorry I would have answered but I was busy at work.

You are indeed correct about the differing connection methods and adapters available. I am quite suprised that you didn't receive any adapters (a.k.a dongle) when you bought the video card, e.g.:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Image... x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Have a look at the last image and you will see a dongle.

As far as DDR5 vs DDR3 I would indeed be pursuing that, even just for the sake of principle that you ordered something and did not receive that exact product! They have entered a "contract" and they either provide it or refund cash, not send a potentially inferior product!
