help! newer inexpensive data recovery software?

One of the guys copied all of a users data over to the new machine. Due to not enough caffeine or whatever he forgot to copy megs and megs of the users local mail folders to the new computer. Then proceeded to format the old machine to trickle down to some luser.

He got as far as installing the OS before the user called and is really really freaking out.
Of course he is new and not sufficiently paraniod as I like to call it and didn't save any backups....

I need a good cheap or free data recovery software that will find the data after a format. We have a real old version which found nothing but the new files.

Fortunately it was almost quiting time and I was able to stall the user until tomorrow...
